GDOT Limits Lane Closures For Easter, Spring Break

Motorists traveling this weekend or next for Easter, Spring Break or for the Atlanta Braves’ opening home stand, should find their trips less stressful thanks to construction lane closure restrictions by the Georgia Department of Transportation.

This Easter weekend, Georgia DOT will limit lane closures on interstate highways throughout the state from midnight Friday, April 3 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 6.

The following weekend, all interstates across Georgia will limit lane closures from 10 p.m. Friday, April 10 to 5 a.m. Monday, April 13. To accommodate the Atlanta Braves’ opening weekend traffic, lane closures will not be allowed on surface streets in the vicinity of Turner Field in Atlanta during this period.

“We urge motorists to exercise caution as crews may still be working in proximity to highways and safety concerns may require long-term lane closures to remain in place,” said GDOT Director of Construction Jeff Baker. “Also, incident management or emergency maintenance-related lane closures could become necessary at any time on any route.”

Traffic is expected to be heavy throughout the state during these weekends. Georgia DOT reminds drivers to eliminate distractions, expect the unexpected and plan before getting on the road. Motorists can access real-time, statewide, route-specific information on accidents, road work, traffic and weather conditions through Georgia 511 - a free phone service.

By dialing 511, callers also can transfer to operators 24 hours a day to report incidents or request assistance.
