Holly Springs Celebrates Georgia Cities Week With Events, Photo Contest

The City Council passed a resolution declaring April 19-26 as Georgia Cities Week.

The city of Holly Springs has joined other municipalities across the state to commemorate April 19-25 as Georgia Cities Week.

The Holly Springs City Council recently passed a resolution declaring April 19-25 as Georgia Cities Week in the city, and the city will hold several other activities throughout the week to celebrate its community.

City Hall will serve as an art exhibit for artwork completed by the second grade classes from Johnston Elementary School that showcases this year’s Georgia Cities Week theme, Destination Downtown.

Holly Springs Main Street Director Erin Honea will visit the second grade classes at Sixes Elementary School April 22 to share with students how city governments operate.

In an effort to include the virtual fans of Holly Springs in the week’s events, the city is hosting a “Where in Holly Springs?” photo contest throughout the week on its Facebook page. Residents will win a free entry into the city’s Memorial Day 5K and Fun Run if they can correctly identify where a posted photo was taken within the city.

And finally, just outside of Georgia Cities Week, the city will participate in the Great American Cleanup, joining communities across America in beautifying their hometowns.

Residents can grab a group of friends and meet city leaders from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at 781 Stringer Road for the community service project.

Participants are asked to park at the Cagle’s Family Farm driveway entrance, which is adjacent to the property.

Cleaning supplies, snacks and water will be provided. Additionally, city residents who show up and take part in the event will receive 5 percent of their stormwater utility bill.

Georgia Cities Week is sponsored by the Georgia Municipal Association and is designed to showcase and celebrate cities and the services they provide.

Based in Atlanta, GMA is a voluntary, nonprofit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and consulting services to its 521 member cities.
