Chlorine Glitch Sickens Swimmers At Johns Creek Pool: Reports

More than a dozen people, including eight kids, were taken to area hospitals Tuesday night after chlorine malfunction at Johns Creek pool.

JOHNS CREEK, GA β€” More than a dozen people, including eight children, were treated at local hospitals Tuesday night for exposure to chlorine after a mixing device malfunctioned at a Johns Creek swimming pool, according to media reports. The incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. during a swim meet at the Life Time Fitness pool, causing several children to vomit and have trouble breathing, WSB-TV Channel 2 reported.

The malfunction caused too much chlorine to be released into the outdoor pool, Channel 2 reported. Chlorine is used to sanitize swimming pools, keeping them clear of algae and free of disease-causing bacteria.

A total of 28 children, between the ages of 10 and 12, had gathered at the Life Time Fitness pool for a swim meet.
