Fair to Help Fulton Parents Prepare Children for Future

The Future Focus Fair will give parents the knowledge on how to properly prepare their children to enter the workforce or post-secondary education institution.

TheΒ Fulton County School Systemnext week will hold a fair designed to help middle and high school parents help their children prepare for the future.

The system's Counseling Department will sponsor theΒ 2013 Future Focus Fair onΒ Saturday Oct. 19, atΒ Georgia Institute of Technology’s Student Center.Β 

The four-hour event kicks offΒ atΒ 9 a.m.

The school system notes the fair "aims to educate parents of middle and highΒ schoolersΒ about the many opportunities awaiting their children after graduation and how they can help prepare them today," according to its release.Β 

The event will also share information not only on colleges, but other post-secondary options that will be available to them once they graduate from high school.Β 

Several representatives from metro Atlanta colleges and universities will be on hand to discuss admissions processes and other entry requirements during a panel discussion.

Colleges and universities that have confirmed they'll have someone on hand include:Β University of Georgia,Β Georgia Institute of Technology,Β Georgia Perimeter College,Β Georgia State University,Β Emory University,Β Morehouse College,Β Atlanta Metropolitan College,Β Gwinnett Technical College andΒ Kennesaw State University.

After the panel, parents will be allowed to attend small break-out sessions that will focus on what courses students should take while in high school to prepare them to enter the workforceΒ or post-secondary educationΒ institution.Β 

Participating panelists include:Β Fulton County Schools counselors/graduation coaches; Fulton County Schools Career & Technical Education Department; Georgia Student Financial Commission; Princeton Review Test Preparation; College Board; United States Armed Forces; and Georgia Career Information System.

Parents should know that increased parking fees will apply on the Georgia Tech campus ($20 fee per car due toΒ game dayΒ parking) onΒ Oct. 19.
