Overnight Lane Closures On Ga. 141 Next Week For Resurfacing

JOHNS CREEK, GA — Contractors for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) will implement overnight lane closures on Ga. 141/Medlock Bridge Road in Fulton County next week to begin milling, inlay and resurfacing activities on the roadway. This project will resurface Medlock Bridge Road from the Gwinnett County line to the Forsyth County line, approximately 5.5 miles.

Weather permitting, “rolling” nightly lane closures will begin on Thursday, July 18. Work hours are limited to 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. the following mornings, seven days a week. These work hours allow crews to work safely with minimal traffic flow while also minimizing lane closure-related traffic delays.

The initial work involves patching various places on the roadway and lowering manholes. As crews complete work in one location, the lane closures will “roll” with the crews to the next work location. Resurfacing will improve the condition of the deteriorating roadway, providing a much smoother ride and improving the integrity of the road materials and topping.

Roadway signs and message boards along the road will alert drivers of the closures in advance. Lane closures reduce prolonged impacts to the traveling public by condensing the crews and equipment needed and ensuring safety for workers and drivers. Motorists are advised to plan alternate routes to their destinations and/or allow extra travel time for traffic delays.

The project is scheduled for completion in late February 2020. Resurfacing activities cannot be performed in cooler weather because of the materials used.
