Stormwater Costs To Soak Johns Creek In 2019
The city is setting aside funds in its proposed fiscal 2019 budget to hire an engineer and to assess its stormwater management system.

JOHNS CREEK, GA β As the City Council begins deliberations over next year's budget, Mayor Mike Bodker has proclaimed fiscal 2019 to be "the year of stormwater." The mayor submitted a proposed budget to the council last week that sets aside funds to assess the city's stormwater management system and hire a stormwater engineer.
"The budget acknowledges the significant liability related to stormwater infrastructure and the impact on residents," reads a city statement on the proposed fiscal 2019 budget.
The budget includes funds for a stream gauge system, and to assess part of the city's stormwater structures "to determine condition and maintenance needs," the statement adds.

In fiscal 2019, the city aims to determine the age and condition of its stormwater infrastructure, create a plan for its long-term maintenance, and consider options to meet those needs, the statement says.
Johns Creek inherited most of its stormwater drainage infrastructure from Fulton County when it incorporated in 2006, said Edie Damann, a city spokeswoman.

"However, some structures have been added or repaired over the last 12 years" as commercial and residential projects have been built, "and the cityβs responsibilities have evolved," she said.
The proposed budget also funds the construction of a fourth fire station and a sound abatement project on Abbotts Bridge Road, from Parsons Road to Jones Bridge Road.
Johns Creek residents can review and provide input on the proposed fiscal 2019 city budget. The first budget presentation to the City Council, which took place on Aug. 13, can be viewed online.
