22-Year-Old Arrested For Fatal Kennesaw State Shooting: Police

Cobb County Police said a shooting occurred at the Stadium Villages Apartment Complex that killed a Kennesaw State student.

KENNESAW, GA — The suspect in a shooting that left a Kennesaw State University student dead turned himself in recently, police said.

Kashman Thomas, 22, was charged with felony murder, three counts of aggravated assault, and two counts of aggravated battery, according to Cobb County Police.

On Oct. 15, Thomas turned himself in to the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Unit and the United States Marshalls Task Force. Thomas is held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center without bond.

On Sunday, Oct. 6 at 11:40 a.m. Cobb County Police Department uniform officers from Precinct One were dispatched to 3044 Hidden Forest Court in reference to a person shot.

Kennesaw State University Police posted online that the Cobb County Police Department confirmed a shooting at the Stadium Villages Apartment Complex near Fifth Third Bank Stadium.

Officers found a male, lying on the ground near the 4000 building, with a gunshot wound to the back. The male was deceased and later identified as Oluwafemi Oyerinde, 18, of Lawrenceville.

Officers located two other victims who had gunshot wounds. It was determined that there had been a dispute between neighbors prior to the shooting.

The additional victims were identified as Khalil Bennett, 18, of Grayson, Georgia, and Jarius Bonner, 18.

Both males were transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for treatment of their injuries.

On Oct. 14, Kennesaw State University held a student-led vigil at the Legacy Gazebo on the Kennesaw campus.

"Kennesaw State Univeristy is profoundly saddened by the recent death of Oluwafemi 'Femi' Oyerinde, who came to KSU just seven weeks ago to begin his freshman year," the university posted online. "Femi was a graduate of Archer High School in Lawrenceville, Georgia, and planned to study mechanical engineering. The University extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Femi."
