‘The Andrews Raid’ Lecture

Civil War historian Michael K. Shaffer will recount the various events of April 12, 1862, and this most daring Federal raid.

James Andrews, a spy for Brigadier General Ormsby Mitchel, led 23 Ohio soldiers on a mission to steal a locomotive, down telegraph lines, and destroy railroad bridges, thereby inflicting damage to the Confederate supply and communications network between Atlanta and Chattanooga.
