Battle of Kolb's Farm

June 22, 1864, 150 years ago today: Battle of Kolb's Farm. "Advancing absent adequate reconnaissance and without approval from Johnston, Hood attacked the two corps of Major Generals John Schofield and Joe Hooker on June 22. The Federals had brought up artillery, held the better ground, and turned Hood’s attack while inflicting heavy casualties to the Confederates; Hood lost 1,000 men, while the Federals counted around 350 killed, wounded, or missing. Battle lines reformed and the blue and gray waited, while Sherman contemplated his next course of action."
