GBI Investigating Officer Involved Shooting In Kennesaw

Kennesaw Police shot a man during a welfare check on Sunday, Sept. 29. He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

KENNESAW, GA — One man was injured Sunday during an officer involved shooting in Kennesaw, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

On Sunday, Sept. 29, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation was requested by the Kennesaw Police Department to investigate an officer involved shooting.

At 6:20 p.m., Kennesaw Police officers were dispatched to 2629 Lone Oak Trail in Kennesaw to conduct a welfare check. Officers found a man, identified as Robert Thrash, 31, in the basement with an object in his hands, the department said. Thrash failed to comply with officers' commands. One officer fired his weapon, striking Thrash, police said.

Thrash was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No officers were injured during the incident.

The GBI will continue its independent investigation. Once complete, it will be turned over to the Cobb County District Attorney’s Office for review.
