Harrison Girls 2nd in Cross Country

Walton again takes a state title away from the Lady Hoyas.

girls came tantalizingly close to a state AAAAA championship for the second time in a week Saturday at the Georgia High School Association cross-country meet in Carrollton.

And for the second consecutive time, stopped the Lady Hoyas.

On Oct. 29, it was the volleyball championship, which the Lady Raiders won in five sets; this past weekend, it wasn’t as close.

Harrison’s Kaylee Isaacs won the individual state title by running the 5K course in 19:01.22, 3½ seconds better than Walton’s Alexa Womack, but four of Womack’s teammates also finished in the top 20 to give Walton the championship by 86 points over the Hoyas.

In addition to Isaacs, scoring for Harrison were Maria Boff in 19th, Elyse Bray in 25th, Jackie Thompson in 37th and Alex Maeder in 57th.

For Harrison’s boys, Jeremy McClung was the top finisher in 40th. Behind him were Conner Ennis in 65th, Tyler Bohn in 75th, Adam Watt in 84th and James Wenk in 102nd. Their combined efforts carried Harrison to 14th place in the race.

boys finished just ahead of the Hoyas in 13th. Andrew Maritim set the pace for the Mustangs by placing 22nd, followed by Nigel Long in 61st, Taylor Cotton in 78th, Austin Kretschmar in 87th and Mousab El-rifadi in 100th.

For the Lady Mustangs, Mary McPartlan was the top finisher in 47th. Also scoring were Anna Vonck in 64th, Rachel Mendoza in 66th, Brady Young in 83rd and Vannah Moreland in 89th. Overall, Kennesaw Mountain was 14th.

also competed in the state AAAAA race Saturday, finishing 18th among the boys and 19th among the girls.

For the Warrior boys, Will Kjar was 52nd, Richard Len 88th, Albert Kariuki 127th, Onesmus Murungaru 132nd and Joshua Wehner 133rd. Jordan Wehner was a few steps behind in 137th.

For the Lady Warriors, Tyra Holloway finished 13th, but no one else made the top 100. Jamie Colon came in 108th, followed by Celeste Swatling in 119th, Regan Jackson in 134th and Mikayla Morgan in 148th.

At the A level, was a solid competitor, finishing 11th among the boys and 12th among the girls.

For Mount Paran’s boys, Joey Carr finished eighth, Taylor Hall 29th, Jeff Pearson 34th, Josh Wilson 89th and Aaron Jones 150th.

For the girls, Morgan Fox was 47th, Emily Blom 55th, Ali Fern 96th, Madison Long 97th, Elizabeth Fox 99th and Amy Blom 101st.

boys finished 16th in the A race. Scoring for the Eagles were Conor Gavin in 15th, Tucker Turner in 85th, Casey Lanier in 113th, Brent Blackwell in 116th and Michael Turner in 119th.
