Kennesaw Basketball Player Accused Of Murder: Police

KENNESAW, GA — A Kennesaw State University basketball player has been charged in connection with the murder of a man who was shot to death in July outside an Atlanta apartment complex.

Kamiyah Street, 20, the former starting point guard for Kennesaw’s women’s basketball team, was charged by the Fulton County Sheriff's Office on Thursday for murder, three counts of felony murder, criminal attempt to commit armed robbery, two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony, records show.

Atlanta police confirmed to the AJC that they "charged Street for her alleged role in the July 16 shooting death of a man whose body was discovered in the parking deck of the Heritage Station apartments on McDaniel Street," the paper reported.

Nashiem Hubbard-Etienne, 21, was the victim of a targeted shooting, Atlanta police spokesman James White told the AJC.

The paper reported that David Beall, Kennesaw's assistant athletic director for communications, told AJC.com the team was made aware of the charges against Street on Thursday evening. He said Street was suspended indefinitely from the team and athletic activities.

Street was arrested along with Cortez Devon Banks, 22; Dontacus Brantley, 20; Johnerton Blake Gilstrap, 21; and Tobias Raynard Wells, 20, WSB-TV reported.

"The 14-count indictment says Hubbard-Etienne was shot to death during an armed robbery attempt and also says at least one shot was fired at a second man," the station reported. "The indictment does not say who fired the shots, but all five defendants are charged with murder and felony murder, both of which carry an automatic sentence of life in prison."
