In Loving Memory of Margaret Ellen Gravitt, 84

Mrs. Margaret Ellen Gravitt, age 84 of Kennesaw, GA passed away at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain in Marietta on Friday, January 1, 2016. Margaret worked fifty years in the medical field as an L.P.N. She started her career Scottish Rite Children’s Hospital and also worked at Forsyth Hospital in Cumming, GA. After moving to Marietta, Margaret worked at Kennestone Hospital in Labor and Delivery. Later, she did private duty nursing, staying with the same patients for several months until she was no longer needed. Margaret then worked as an office nurse for Dr. Remer Clark, where she made many friends. She also worked at Shoreham Nursing Home and Ross Memorial Healthcare Center. Margaret spent the last twenty years of her career as an Emergency Room nurse at Smyrna Adventist Hospital where she was once named Employee of the Year. Her take-charge attitude in the emergency room earned her the nickname “The General”. Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Greg Wilbanks of Cumming; son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Robin Gravitt of Marietta; nephew, Mike Thomas and his wife, Judy of Macon, GA. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, Linton Junior Gravitt, her father, Mitchell M. White; her mother, Ruth C. White and her sister, Marion Thomas. Funeral services will be held Monday, January 4 at 2 p.m. at the Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel in Marietta with Rev. Lendell Ainsworth and Rev. Dexter Gravitt officiating. Interment will follow at Cheatham Hill Memorial Park. Margaret’s family wishes to thank her caregivers, Dr. Jose Andujar, the nursing staff at Kennestone Hospital’s Green Tower, 5th floor North and the staff at Wellstar Tranquility Hospice at Kennesaw Mountain for their professional and compassionate care.
