Moon's Station

One of the sites along the Andrew's Raid route.

James Andrews and the raiders stopped outside Big Shanty, at Moon’s Station, and cut telegraph wires and stacked cross-ties on the track.

Andrews believed it imperative to maintain the normal speed of 16 mph, and stay on schedule to avoid arousing suspicion., so he was in no great hurry to continue northward.

When Conductor William Fuller and crew arrived on foot, and saw the downed telegraph lines, they began to realize perhaps this was not an act from Confederate deserters.
