Noonday Creek Park Facilities Damaged by Fireworks to Be Rebuilt, Cost Hundreds of Thousands

The facilities, which were completely destroyed by fire, will cost more than $730,000 to replace.

A maintenance building and pole barn at Noonday Creek Park that were damaged by fireworks illegally set off on the fourth of July will cost hundreds of thousands to rebuild, county commissioners said.

AJC.com reports the Cobb County Board of Commissioners voted 5-0 to hire Osprey Management to design the rebuilding of the facilities, destroyed by a fire caused by the setting off of fireworks by unknown trespassers in the parking lot after the park had closed for the night.

County staff said the fire appeared to have started in some brush and spread to the structures. Police are still seeking to identify the people responsible.

In total, the project is expected to cost $736,210. That includes $366,000 to Osprey Management for the design and build; $306,210 to replace equipment and supplies; $47,000 for third-party project management and special inspections; and $17,000 for demolition.

Around $250,000 will be paid by the county's claims fund, and then the county hopes insurance proceeds will reimburse the county for the remainder of the balance, according to county documents and the Marietta Daily Journal.
