Religion in the Civil War: This four-week course begins February 3, 2020 at KSU's College of Professional Education. Separation among denominations served as a precursor to the secession of eleven Southern states. Fracture in the Methodist Church occurred first with that body dividing over the issue of slavery in 1845. Baptists formalized a separate Sothern Baptist Convention. The Presbyterian Church formally split along the North-South lines in 1861. Despite the splintering of churches before the American Civil War, religion had a profound impact on leaders, officers and soldiers. During this course, with instructor Michael K. Shaffer, students will explore a war where both sides prayed to the same God. Registration now open online at http://bit.ly/2QlgvYP or call 470.578.6765. Remember to inquire about a scholarship if you call, or attend the College of Professional Education at KSU Open House next Thursday, (1/9/20) 6:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. if you have questions!
