Summer University Camps Ready to Open June 4
Camps offer a stimulating learning environment designed for rising 1st through 12th-grade students

As the school year is winding down, Summer University at KSU’s College of Continuing and Professional Education is getting ready to open its doors on Monday, June 4. Whether your child loves dancing, writing, animals and wildlife, chocolate chip pancakes and building Legos, camps are plentiful at Summer University through mid-July.
The program offers a stimulating learning environment designed for rising 1st through 12th-grade students. Combining academics and a creative atmosphere, young minds begin to discover and explore a variety fields from culinary arts and performing arts to technology, science and engineering.
“The mixture of academics combined with a creative atmosphere result in one-of-a-kind summer camp experience,” said Melody Toy, program manager. “you might find us outside doing science experiments or going on a scavenger hunt utilizing geocaching technology. Inside, students will be creating unique artwork and comic books and whipping up meals and desserts in the kitchen. The camps are designed to give students an opportunity to explore their creativity, challenge their minds and build new friendships.”

This year, Summer University has added more than a dozen new camps where children can hone their skills. New camp offerings include Mini Medical Academy, The Songwriter’s Workshop, An Ocean Odyssey, Architecture and Modeling with AutoCAD, Stop-Motion Movie Making and Digital Illustrations.
“We are excited to provide campers with new learning opportunities,” said Toy. “Just like our instructors for our professional certificate programs are subject matter experts, so are our camp leaders. Science teachers develop camps such as Mini Medical Academy, Plants and Minerals, and EcoAdventures. Our campers are taught by those who know the material inside and out.”
