5 Things To Know From Roswell City Council Meeting

ROSWELL, GA — The Roswell City Council recently approved multiple items during a meeting, including a strategic plan, transportation projects, swore in a new fire chief and approved a multi-use trail.

During the meeting on Monday, the City Council did the following actions:

New Fire Chief Sworn In

Joe Pennino was sworn in as the new fire chief of the City of Roswell. Pennino has been with the Largo Fire Rescue, in Florida, for more than 18 years, where he has served in nearly every capacity, from firefighter to interim fire chief.

Strategic Plan

The city adopted its first city-wide strategic plan. The city and its consultant held numerous listening and visioning sessions with stakeholders that included residents and business owners. These sessions were held throughout the community to collect input and ideas from the public about what they wanted to see for Roswell's future. To view the plan, click here.

This was approved by a vote of 4-2.

Comprehensive Plan

The council agreed to move forward on the 2040 Comprehensive Plan. This document serves as a roadmap for how the city will look in the future, including land use, parks, and transportation. The city is required to update this plan every five years. This was approved with a vote of 5-1.

In a separate vote, council agreed to send changes back to committee for review. This was approved 4-1 with one abstention.

Transportation Projects

The mayor and city council approved a list of transportation projects to put before voters as part of the Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, known as TSPLOST, in November. The proposed projects are located throughout the city. Based on Roswell’s population, the city’s projected revenue from the tax will be $86.3 million. To view the list of projects, click here.

This was approved unanimously.

Multi-Use Trail

The council approved the design of a new 2,600-foot-long, 10-foot-wide multi-use trail from the entrance of Big Creek Park to Wooten Road on Old Alabama Road. The designs will cost $167,400, with the ultimate cost of the trail estimated to be between $750,000 and $850,000.
