Child Development Association's Derby Wins with Sellout Crowd

In its 9th year, the Down Home Derby fundraiser was created to provide support for the CDA's Scholarship Fund. Over 450 guests attended.

From CDA: The annual Down Home Derby presented by Malon D. Mimms Company and benefiting the children who attend the Child Development Association reached an all-time event attendance of over 450 guests. This always popular event was sold out weeks in advance.

In its 9th year, the Down Home Derby fundraiser was created to provide support for the CDA’s Scholarship Fund with the goal to ensure that every child has access to high-quality early learning opportunities. High-quality early learning helps children enter kindergarten ready to learn and prepared to thrive in elementary school and in life.

“The community really comes together with their financial support for our kids.” said Maggie DeCan CEO & Executive Director who said the organization hopes to make over $100,000 to benefit the school’s scholarship fund. “The proceeds of this event provide the funds needed to send 400 children to preschool for a week or run our school for nearly 3 weeks. That’s makes a real difference. We so appreciate the Malon D. Mimms Company, Kimberly Clark Corporation, Righteous Guitars and all of our generous sponsors who help defray the cost of the event and enable money to go to the kids.” DeCan added that they are already talking to interested businesses about sponsoring next year’s event celebrating the CDA’s 50th year anniversary.
