Children's Development Academy Awarded Challenge Grants

The Shickler and Hagan families are challenging the community to sponsor a child attending the Roswell-based preschool center.

ROSWELL, GA — Children’s Development Academy has received two Roswell family challenges kicking off its annual giving campaign, with opportunities for donors to sponsor a CDA child for a day, multiple days or even for a year.

The Shickler family is challenging the community to sponsor a child for a day $50 or for multiple days, and they will match sponsorships up to $249. Throughout the year, any donation amount under $250 will be generously met by the Shicklers for the second year in a row. The Hagan Family Challenge began three years ago with a $150,000 pledge over a five-year period. This year the Hagans will match all weekly child sponsorships at $250 or more, monthly sponsorships at $1,000 or annual sponsorships at $13,000.

“This is another exciting year for the CDA. These challenges allow us to give children high-quality early care and education while helping to ease the financial burden for the families that we serve,” said Maggie DeCan, CEO and executive director of the Children’s Development Academy. “The Shickler and Hagan Family have been extremely generous by offering these opportunities for the community to double the impact of their donations. Our hope is to have all 256 students sponsored this year.”

“There is still a need for affordable care in our community. In the past few years, we all have seen
tremendous economic growth happening in our North Fulton community," said CDA Board Development Chair, Angela Medley said. "However, sometimes lost behind the scenes is the large population of hard-working families that are experiencing economic and affordable housing challenges. By giving a child a day, a week, a month or year, your gift is doubled and you will make a tremendous impact on the families we serve.”
