Curated by Elaine DeNiro, the Roswell Historical Society Archivist, and Sherron Lawson, the Roswell Historical Society Curator of Textiles, the exhibit is fashioned from the Historical Society clothing, textiles, and accessories collections along the theme of spring and summer garden parties. Dena Bush, City of Roswell Historic Assets Manager, and Roswell Historical Society staff both agreed that Bulloch Hall was the perfect backdrop for this opportunity with the house museum's historic furnishings, garden areas, and space.
"Whether it is an afternoon tea, a plein-air evening event, or a garden wedding, life always calls for the proper attire," says Elaine DeNiro. "This unique selection will highlight elegant clothing and accessories from the early 1900s through the 1960s." Guests will have the chance to view exceptionally preserved pieces, including white cotton muslin dresses of the 1910s and a child's high-waist floral dress of the 1960s, as well as displays of shoes and accouterments that completed the outfits of the period. Located on the first floor only, each room either encompasses a time-period or related themed occasion.

Dena Bush, Historic Assets Manager, states, "We were thrilled to collaborate on this exhibit to celebrate going into the summer, getting outside, and to acknowledge the long-standing tradition of garden gatherings and events. I think that not only will guests enjoy musing about changing fashion, but also recognize the impressive textile collection Roswell Historic Society so thoughtfully manages."
The City of Roswell's Historic Assets Division is part of the Recreation, Parks, Historic & Cultural Affairs Department. After viewing the exhibit, guests are encouraged to create their own unique summer experiences by visiting some of Roswell's hidden garden gems. These include the gardens at Bulloch Hall and Barrington Hall, the Serenity Garden at Roswell Area Park, and the Grimes Bridge Sensory Garden at the Roswell Adult Recreation Center. It is always free to visit these outdoor spaces.
Bulloch Hall is located at 180 Bulloch Drive, directly west of Roswell's Historic Town Square. The exhibit is open to the public during normal operating hours of Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 4 pm, and Sunday, 1 – 4 pm. Admission (ages 12+) is $10 per person. Please visit www.SouthernTrilogy.com for more information.
Bulloch Hall is one of the long-standing cornerstones of historic Roswell and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors to Bulloch Hall will discover a Presidential link in one of Roswell's founding families. Built for the James Stephens Bulloch family, this 19th century home on the Georgia frontier shaped the life of Mittie Bulloch, mother to Theodore Roosevelt, 26th President of the United States. Part of the 'A Southern Trilogy', along with Barrington Hall and Smith Plantation, Roswell's house museums share the stories of Roswell's foundation and history.
The Roswell Historical Society/City of Roswell Research Library and Archives are located in the Roswell Cultural Arts Center at 950 Forrest Street.
