Fulton Schools Make Decision On Jan. 29 Classes
A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for parts of metro Atlanta and north Georgia from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

FULTON COUNTY, GA — Since Gov. Brian Kemp has announced state government offices will close Tuesday, Jan. 29 due to winter weather expected to move into the Georgia, the Fulton County School System said it will follow suit and shut down operations for that day.
"The governor has closed all state offices for Tuesday, Jan. 29, based on a winter storm watch," the school system said on its Facebook page. "Given the risk associated with ice, the timing of a potential event, and the impact it may have on traffic, the weather team erred on the side of safety in closing Fulton County Schools and all administrative offices (for) Tuesday, January 29, 2019."
Atlanta Public Schools has also announced it will close up shop on Tuesday, as a Winter Weather Advisory will go into effect from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday. Fulton County also noted its operations, which includes its courthouse, will also be closed Tuesday due to the predicted weather. However, "mission-essential personnel" and employees assigned to public safety agencies will report for duty, the county said. Jurors should not report for duty, and they can call the number on their jury summons for more information.

According to the National Weather Service, total snow accumulations will be up to one and half-inch along and north of Carollton, Marietta and Canton. Snow-covered roads and limited visibility are expected, and drivers are strongly encouraged to stay off the roads if possible.
"Lesser amounts of snow are likely right along the Interstate 85 corridor," NWS states in its message. "In addition, any moisture left on the roadways, especially in sheltered or protected areas will likely refreeze, increasing the potential for black ice development."
