ROSWELL, GA -- A funeral service is planned for Tuesday for the Louisiana State University student and Roswell native who died last week after leaving a fraternity house. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Sept. 19 at St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church in Roswell.
A viewing will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18 at the church and a private burial will take place at Green Lawn Cemetery, his obituary states. Gruver, 18, a freshman at the university, was taken from a fraternity house to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital on Thursday where he died shortly after arriving, East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner Dr. William "Beau" Clark previously told Patch.

Preliminary findings released Friday from an autopsy doesn't show any internal or external trauma on or within Gruver's body. However, Dr. Clark said Gruver did suffered "marked cerebral and pulmonary edema," or swelling, and blood and urine tests conducted at the hospital show "highly elevated blood alcohol level" and the presence of THC in the student's urine. THC is the chemical compound in marijuana that causes the feeling of euphoria.
According to his obituary, Gruver graduated from Blessed Trinity Catholic High School and was majoring in political journalism at LSU.

"Max was a kind and generous young man who was deeply loved by his friends and family," the obituary added. "He loved sports with a passion, even coaching his little sister’s basketball team."
His family also noted he was a published sports writer, and his work appeared on Def Pen and The Winning Take. He was so excited to begin his career in journalism at LSU that he already "made a new home in Louisiana," the obituary goes on to state.
