GA Public Health Updates Coronavirus Website As Deaths Pass 2,100

The GA Dept. of Public Health will now update its coronavirus website once daily at 3 p.m. On Tuesday, there were more than 2,100 deaths.

GEORGIA — As the number of coronavirus cases and deaths continue to rise, the Georgia Department of Public Health is working on improving its delivery method for statistics.

Starting Tuesday, there will be several improvements to the COVID-19 daily status report on the Georgia Department of Public Health’s website. These changes are designed to make the dashboard more user-friendly while providing an accurate picture of COVID-19 in Georgia.

The changes to the daily status report will include:

  • Once daily updates at 3 p.m. to allow time to process and validate laboratory and case reports.
  • Reordering the display of key summary metrics as follows: Confirmed COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, deaths, ICU admissions.
  • A breakdown of the total number of molecular tests, the total number of serology tests, and the number of positives and percentage of positives for each test type.
  • Revised charts of key demographics that more clearly present data.
  • Improved usability of charts and refinements to labelling and supporting documentation of the data.

The Georgia Department of Public Health will regularly review and update features of the dashboard to improve data quality and accuracy.

As of Tuesday, there have been 48, 207 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Georgia, 2,102 deaths, 8,334 hospitalizations and 1,821 people admitted to the ICU. More than 565,000 Georgians have been tested for the coronavirus, and there are currently 828 people hospitalized.

That's an increase of nearly 600 more confirmed cases, 60 more deaths and 207 new hospitalizations since Monday afternoon.

Counties in or near metro Atlanta continue to have the highest number of cases, with Fulton County in first with 4,638 confirmed positives. Gwinnett is now second with 3,891 cases, while DeKalb is third with 3,803, Cobb is fourth with 3,056 and Hall is fifth with 2,508. Today's statistics also identify 1,561 cases of COVID-19 as from "unknown" counties, with 2,144 cases counted as "Non-Georgia."

Fulton County reports the most deaths, with 242, followed by Cobb County, with 183. Dougherty County in southwest Georgia, site of the state's earliest hotspot, is third with 149 deaths. Rounding out the top five counties are Gwinnett in fourth with 133 deaths and DeKalb in fifth with 121 deaths.
