Hardscrabble, Chaffin Road Closure Extended By 1 Week

The city of Roswell said the intersection is expected to reopen on or around Aug. 3.

ROSWELL, GA — The city of Roswell said the closure on Hardscrabble Road at Chaffin Road has been extended by an additional week due to weather delays and utility issues that occurred in July.

The city now expects the roadway will reopen on or around Aug. 3 and "will be reopened before the first day of Fulton County Schools." The first day of school for the 2018-19 school year is Monday, Aug. 6.

"We understand this closure is an inconvenience for the traveling public, but this four-week closure this summer is shortening the project’s overall duration by 3 to 4 months," the city said Monday on its Facebook page, referring to the Hardscrabble Green Loop Project. Thanks for your patience!"

The contractor is using the closure to build a roundabout at Hardscrabble and Chaffin roads. Through traffic will be required to detour around the Hardscrabble-Chaffin Road intersection using Etris Road, Crabapple Road, State Route 92/W. Crossville Road and King Road. Local residents will still be allowed access.

The entire Hardscrabble Green Loop project is slated to be finished in the spring or summer of 2019. The Hardscrabble Green Loop is a "complete street," featuring intersection improvements, sidewalks, bikes lanes, and a multi-use trail.

Once complete, it will allow bicyclists and pedestrians to use both sides of Hardscrabble Road corridor. This concept is part of a larger bicycle and pedestrian system called the Roswell Loop. The cost of the entire project is $5.8 million and is jointly funded by the city and the Georgia Department of Transportation.
