Memorial Planned For Teacher Killed While Crossing Highway
Sue Scheer, an adaptive physical education teacher in the Fulton County School System, was fatally hit by a car late Saturday in Roswell.

ROSWELL, GA — A memorial will be held Wednesday evening at Roswell High School to honor Fulton County teacher who was hit and killed late Saturday while crossing a busy street. The memorial to celebrate the life of Sue Scheer will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 24 at the school's outdoor classroom. Attendees are asked to bring any photos or items that reminds them of their memories with Scheer.
Scheer was crossing Alpharetta Street/Ga. 9 in front of Lucky's Burger and Brew and Pure Taqueria when she was struck by a van traveling northbound on the highway, Roswell police spokesperson Lisa Holland previously told Patch.
Holland said traffic enforcement investigators are not sure which direction Scheer was traveling when she was struck. She also said Scheer was not in the crosswalk at the time of the fatal collision. The driver of the vehicle did not see the educator until after she was hit, Holland added.

"Fulton leadership is currently working closely with our Counseling Psychological Social Work Services Department to offer support to our students and faculty during this difficult time."

According to her Facebook page, Scheer was organizing a fundraiser in support of Lou Gehrig's Disease, more commonly known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or ALS, a progressive disease that attacks the cells controlling voluntary muscle movement. The fundraiser, she added, was in honor of her mother who passed away from the disease. Lucky's Burger and Brew will host the fundraiser on Tuesday, Oct. 30, and a portion of a diner's food or drink bill will be donated to the ALS Association Georgia Chapter.
According to a memorial announcement, funeral arrangements for the beloved teacher have been made. Scheer's family will accept visitors from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28 at A.J. Desmond & Sons Funeral Directors in Royal Oak, Michigan. A funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 29 at Our Lady Of Refuge Catholic Church in Orchard Lake, Michigan.
According to her obituary, Scheer attended Our Lady of Refuge Catholic School and Marian High School. She was active in softball, and loved visiting her grandparents with her sister.
"They loved making caramel corn together and enjoying the outdoors," the obit states. "Her wonderful sense of humor will be missed."
Scheer obtained her bachelor's degree in education from Eastern Michigan University and "found she had true talent working in special education." She taught all levels of students in the Fulton County School System, ranging from preschool students to high school teenagers.
"Whether they needed additional emotional, mental, or physical support, Sue had just about every certification to assist their needs," the obituary goes on to state.
Scheer also coached lacrosse, organized Special Olympics events and even worked as a guest bartender at Lucky's on occasion.
