Roswell Church Leaders Pray Over Police Chief for Safety of Officers

Local church leaders invited Police Chief Rusty Grant to Sunday services to pray for officers' safety in wake of Dallas shooting.

Police departments across the Atlanta Metro area have been extending their condolences and calling for peace in the wake of the deadly sniper attacks that left five police officers dead in Dallas last week.

In Roswell, AJC.com reports local church leaders have been praying for the safety of Roswell's finest, including praying over Police Chief Rusty Grant during a Sunday service at both Eagle's Nest Church and Zion Missionary Baptist.

Chief Grant told AJC.com he was "overwhelmed by the love and support he felt from the friends in attendance"and for all those praying for the safety of Roswell's officers.

In response, church leaders from Eagle's Nest posted a photo from the service on their Facebook page and said, "We, too, are overwhelmed by your clear investment in making things better for us all."

Zion Missionary Baptist said "the power of prayer is real" and "it works," after scores of black members of the congregation prayed over Chief Grant at the church's altar, calling for his safety and the safety of police officers across the nation.

AJC.com reports that protests throughout the Atlanta Metro area have largely been peaceful, and that one protester told their reporter "more than anything, we are trying to build a positive relationship between us and police."
