Reader-Nominated Businesses Of The Year: Roswell's Best

ROSWELL, GA — It's been a tough year for Roswell businesses. The coronavirus pandemic presented enormous challenges for most, from the stay-home orders in the spring to restrictions and other hurdles from fall into winter.

To recognize all their efforts, Patch asked readers to nominate Local Businesses of the Year, whether it was the restaurant that made special accommodations for takeout, the shop that opened early, the pizzeria that went out of its way to deliver, the hardware store owner that offered invaluable advice or something else.

These nominations are not an official award, but simply recognition of a job well done.

Here are some of the nominations Patch has received in Roswell, and the reason why they should be honored. Several businesses received multiple nominations, which are listed below:

• Lilly Sage Apothecary:
  • I know I’m the owner and as such I should love our business, but I have to say, we love our community! That affection drives and defines us. We hope it shines thru in every product we make and item we sell.
  • The soap is incredible! Everything is handmade in the shop. The owner and her staff are friendly and helpful. The shop is beautiful. The products have helped my skin so much. They really care about the ingredients that they put into the products.
• Painted Earth Skin Care: We strive for 100% customer satisfaction. All products are natural and cruelty free with big results. Even during the lock done the owner would go in at night to ship customers orders out. We have helped customers achieve their desire for clear skin(control or get rid of their acne), radiant skin and renew aging tired skin. All with no nasty chemicals or side effects (red irritated skin). We treat the whole face to make it healthy not just the problem. Our customers do this in the comfort of their own home with our direction and remarkable products.
• Hugo's: Great outdoor patio with propane heaters. Consistently excellent food and service.
• Signs Of Significance: At Signs Of Significance we very much appreciate our home town Roswell Clients who have helped us continue to grow through our 5 year history. Especially this year as we worked hard to meet the demands of our Essential business Clients and others who have continued to need Signs & Graphics support in Design, Permitting, Fabrication, Installation & Service. You all helped on earn the Best Sign Shop In North Atlanta in 2020. Its always a great day to do business in Roswell!
• Brilliant: Lovely, small family-owned jeweler who does amazing custom jewelry, as well as, pre-made pieces.
• Gracious Plenth: The owners and staff have always been welcoming, wonder and unique, but went the extra mile this year during the pandemic to offer take out meals and feed children out of school. They’ve supported the local community in many ways and their breakfast food is some of the very best in town. Kudos GP!
• Mellow Mushroom Roswell: *Updated business model for to-go orders with a new curbside delivery service. *Implemented social distancing for all dine-in orders *Moved all seating to the 25,000 square foot Backyard *Added heaters to patio for outdoor dinning *Staff has been trained in cleaning and sanitizing
• Southern Sprinkler Systems, LLC: While providing exceptional service to their customers, Southern Sprinklers is also widely known for its philanthropy and generosity with Roswell schools, churches, veteran groups and non-profits. They serve as Partners in Education for a number of public schools, organize and provide time, talent and treasure for hurricane relief since Katrina in 2003, and support a wide variety of charities and organizations that serve our community. They epitomize service above self.
• From The Earth Brewing: oustanding food, beer, and 5 star service
• From Sir with Love: A really cute store with a variety of unique, lovely gifts, and always friendly service.
• RO Hospitality: This restaurant group has three restaurants with great food and impeccable service. They have gone above and beyond during this pandemic - consolidating their menus for easy order and pick-up, adding additional outside seating, installing barriers for indoor seating, and establishing a fund & service to feed their industry peers in need. The Pernices (owners) are a beautiful example of how a business can share talent and generosity and be an important part of the neighborhood. Roswell is lucky to have them.
• Mojo Vinyl: Mojo Vinyl sells new and used vinyl, turntables, posters and books along with other record related material. Owner Rand Cabus has for years worked diligently to build a local record store that welcomes anyone and everyone to share in the love of music no matter what genre. Now in its fourth iteration and location (36 Woodstock Street) Mojo Vinyl is more than just a local business, it has become a gathering place for individuals throughout the greater Atlanta area to come together on a regular basis to share in their love of music in general and music on vinyl specifically. While the challenges of a pandemic have made it more difficult, Rand has responded with guidance from the CDC and kept both new and existing customers safe. Rand is always looking for new ideas and events to participate in to promote not only his business but also to celebrate the greater Roswell community and I think that sort of dedication should be recognized and celebrated. His commitment to that ideal consistently draws increasing numbers of people from other communities to Roswell where they then shop and ultimately take a positive impression of Roswell back to their own communities driving even more traffic to Roswell.

• Renovate for Less Outlet: From the second you walk in you are greeted and welcomed with warm smiles and knowledgeable staff. This local family owned business treats there clients with much care and patience. I was not only able to ensure I was getting the right vanity for my bathroom project, I also saved 40% off the Home Depot price for the exact same item. In summary- great staff and tremendous savings- I love this place.
• HOME2 SUITES ROSWELL: Opened June 1st despite the pandemic with just the managers and a very very limited staff. We have managed to keep are rates in line with the needs of the community and providing affordable accommodations to many displaced locals and essential workers. So many have unfortunately lost their homes and have come to find they have regained another with us. There are guests who have lost a loved one, some with illnesses, many struggling to make ends meet, home fires and other disasters. The stories we hear are absolutely heartbreaking, how anyone has remained strong is unbelievable. The staff is the friendliest and most kind hearted crew I have ever known, I have witnessed so many acts of kindness here on property and I am so very grateful to be a part of a business that actually puts service above profit.
• 1920 Tavern: 1920 Tavern is a hidden gem tucked away in Downtown Roswell. During late August, I contacted them about hosting a 40th surprise birthday party for my wife and they were able to accommodate 20 people on a busy Saturday night. The owner, Jenna, always goes out of her way to make you feel welcomed are 100% satisfied! The food that the chef produces here will amaze any palette and you will not leave disappointed!
• Sunshine Smiles Dentistry:
  • Sunshine Smiles Dentistry in Roswell Georgia has been providing excellent dental services. The American Dental Association says that dentistry is essential health care and Oral health is integral to overall health. The dental team at Sunshine Smiles Dentistry has been providing oral health to patients through this pandemic and treating patients for dental emergencies and routine dental care in a safe setting. The staff wears all the personal protective equipment (PPE) and they continued to provide outstanding service to every patient.
