Roswell Baseball Fundraiser Features Cross-Town Rivalry
The Roswell and Centennial HS baseball teams will play each other this weekend for to raise fun for the Roswell Youth Baseball Association.
ROSWELL, GA -- After a three-year absence, the cross-town rivalry between the Roswell High School Hornetsbaseball team, led by second-year head coach Ben Sutter, and the Centennial High School Knights baseball, also led by a second-year head coach in Matt McCarthy, roars back with a home and home series. Both games will feature festivities to celebrate this renewed competition and support future Centennial and Roswell baseball players as they start their baseball careers in the Roswell Recreation baseball program.
The first game will be held Saturday, March 23 at the Roswell High School baseball field located off Hardscrabble Road behind the school. The first pitch on Saturday will be thrown out by Roswell City Councilman Matt Tyser at 1 p.m.
The final game of the showdown will be held at Centennial High’s baseball diamond on Thursday, April 11 beginning at 5:55 pm with Councilwoman Marie Willsey throwing out the first pitch.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Proceeds from both game’s concessions sales will be donated to the Roswell Youth Baseball Association (RYBA) scholarship fund to offset fees for players who might not otherwise have the opportunity to play recreational baseball or grow through the competitive select and travel leagues offered by the city. Donations will also be accepted at each school’s concession stand on the day of the game.
Youth teams have been invited from the Roswell Youth Baseball Program to be introduced alongside their varsity counterparts, schedules permitting, at both games.

Finally, both teams will be kicking off their first ever gently used baseball equipment and pants drive with donations to be upcycled to youth players looking for affordable bats, helmets, gloves and other equipment. Items will be collected at the admission table at both schools and at the concession stand. Residents are invited to scour their homes and garages for equipment in good working order.
"The RYBA is proud to partner with both Roswell high schools and their baseball programs in efforts attempting to keep baseball accessible to all local children" Roswell Youth Baseball Association president Keith Long, said in a release. "Many players on both teams grew up through the Roswell Youth Baseball program, including players going on to play college baseball. We want to ensure that all gifted athletes in our community continue to have that same opportunities to receive the benefits that come from team athletics."
