Roswell High School Drama Receives Several Awards

Fine Arts Department Has Upcoming Performance

The Roswell High School Drama program has received several recent accolades.

Roswell Fine Arts Drama Troupe was invited to perform at the 2019 Georgia Thespian Conference in Columbus, Georgia, February 8-9, 2019, after winning Region Four, 7a One-Act Play and coming in fourth place in State through the Georgia High School Association. At ThesCon, they presented their Region Championship One-Act Play, Jungal Book.

Selected school productions from across Georgia are invited to perform at The Georgia Thespian Conference, and students attend drama workshops, performances and technical events, and audition for scholarships with college theater representatives. The conference draws about 5,000 participants annually.

“This year alone, the RHS drama program has received several honors including a region championship at One-Act, the opportunity to perform at the annual Thespian Conference, and so much more,” said Principal Robert Shaw. “Not only am I excited about the success of the theater program this year, but can’t wait to see them experience future success.”

Drama Teacher Rebecca Stern directed Jungal Book, the fall production for Roswell High School Theatre. Stern was also named the Georgia Coaches Association Region 4 7A Coach of The Year for One-Act Play. Stern teaches Introduction to Theatre, Acting, Advanced Drama, Technical Theatre, Musical Theatre and Film in the Fine Arts Department.

Said Shaw, “Mrs. Stern has brought a tremendous amount of energy to the Roswell Theatre program. She has made it clear to her students that she cares about them, but that the expectations for them are very high.”

Roswell High School Musical Theatre’s next production is Mary Poppins: The Broadway Musical, February 21-23, 2019, at 7 p.m. and February 24 at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at
