Roswell Resident Publishes How-To Book on Personal Finance
Margin Matters aims to help younger generation budget wisely and avoid debt
Roswell resident Jason Brown has published a new book titled Margin Matters: How to Live on a Simple Budget & Crush Debt Forever. The book shares the story of how he and his wife eliminated $75,000 of debt in just three years. Additionally, Margin Matters provides practical solutions to creating and sticking to a simple budget, eliminating debt permanently, and managing your expenses to create the most margin at any income level.
The concept of the book states that it doesn’t matter how much money you make but it’s your margin, or disposable income, that matters the most. Brown caught himself constantly thinking, “I just need to make more money,” when in reality it was his financial education that was lacking. The book chronicles his journey to educate himself on how to manage money more effectively.
“I wrote the book for several reasons,” Brown said. “Mainly because it sickens me to see what's going on with all the student loan debt our younger generation is being forced to incur and I desperately want to do something to help people minimize or avoid debt all together.”
Brown’s book also covers topics such as the psychology of money, dying with debt, why your home is a bad investment, the real cost of college, expecting the unexpected, and differentiating needs from wants. The book’s second half features interviews with unique individuals from all walks of life who possess an array of perspectives on money including a young couple who paid off over $400,000 in student loan debt in only four years.

“Unfortunately, we live in a society where money is still a taboo topic,” Brown said. “I feel extremely fortunate to have captured several amazing interviews from a diverse group of individuals who all acquired different views of money. Many people will learn many things from their stories.”
Margin Matters began as a class assignment during Brown’s time as a graduate student in Kennesaw State University’s Master of Arts in Professional Writing program. More information on the book can be found at www.yourmarginmatters.com.
