Fulton School System Makes Decision About Jan 18 Classes
BREAKING: weather forecast indicates temperatures will remain below freezing for most of Thursday, providing little chance for snow to melt.

ROSWELL, GA — In an expected move, the Fulton County School System said it will remain closed on Thursday, Jan. 18 due to icy road conditions plaguing county streets. The system said it also made its decision based on Gov. Nathan Deal declaring a state of emergency for 83 counties in north and central Georgia.
"Weather forecasts indicate that temperatures will remain below freezing through Thursday, leaving little opportunity for existing snow or ice to melt and provide safe travel conditions," the school district added.
Along with students having another holiday, staff members are directed not to report to work —except for employees who have been identified for "recovery operations." Those employees will be contacted by their supervisor.

The Fulton County School Board meeting scheduled for Jan. 18 has also been cancelled. Next week the school district will announce its strategy for making up instructional time, which it said will be a combination of traditional and innovative methods.
Students and residents are encouraged to stay tuned to local media outlets such as Patch, the system's Twitter and Facebook channels and its website for any change in information.
