Storms In Georgia Could Interrupt Mother's Day Weekend Plans
The National Weather Service predicts a stormy weekend in Georgia, including a hazardous weather outlook just in time for Mother's Day.
GEORGIA — As the weekend approaches, the National Weather Service is warning Georgians to keep an eye on the weather as it could turn dangerous.
The NWS issued on Friday a hazardous weather outlook for portions of North and Central Georgia. A couple of frontal boundaries will sweep through the region over the next few days bringing increased chances of showers and thunderstorms and possible severe storms.
The Storm Prediction Center currently has parts north Georgia under severe different risk categories through Sunday:

- Sunday - Marginal & Slight Risk of Severe

With an estimated 2-3 inches of precipitation expected over the next few days, the NWS said north Georgia is in a prime area for flooding through Sunday night.
Scattered thunderstorms are expected this afternoon into tonight across north and central Georgia. A few storms could be strong to severe. The primary hazards with the strongest storms will be damaging winds, frequent lightning and heavy rainfall.
Then on later this weekend, the NWS said showers and thunderstorms can be expected Saturday into early Monday. Some storms could be strong to severe Saturday and on Mother's Day on Sunday. The primary hazards with the strongest storms will be damaging winds and frequent lightning. Large hail will also be possible.
Heavy rain with localized flooding will be possible and most likely over north Georgia. An isolated tornado will be possible, mostly on Sunday.
Later next week, the NWS said there will be a slight chance of thunderstorms Wednesday night and Thursday.

Friday Afternoon: A 20 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. South wind around 5 mph.
Friday Night: A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Patchy dense fog after 3 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 66. Calm wind becoming south around 5 mph.
Saturday morning: Showers and thunderstorms likely, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 11 a.m. Patchy dense fog before 9 a.m. High near 77. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Saturday Night: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 2 a.m, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 a.m. Cloudy, with a low around 65. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70 percent.
Sunday Morning: Occasional showers and thunderstorms. High near 74. Southwest wind around 10 mph, with gusts as high as 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent.
Sunday Night: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 56.
Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 73.
