Application Open For March Sandy Springs Citizens Fire Academy
As part of the March training, participants will also receive training in connection with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team).

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs Fire Department is now accepting applicants for its Citizen’s Fire Academy. The eight-week program provides participants with an overview of fire operations, including hands-on experience in fire and life safety. As part of the March training, participants will also receive training in connection with CERT (Community Emergency Response Team), which educates volunteers about disaster preparedness. The program is free and open to those ages 18 and older who live and work in Sandy Springs.
The Citizens Fire Academy community engagement program began in 2015, designed to provide residents with an increased awareness of the day-to-day operations of the fire department. The training is an immersive experience with most sessions conducted at Sandy Springs Fire Stations. The classes include a shift where participants experience life at the fire station, including a ride-along with fire units to whatever calls occur during that shift.
Graduates of the Citizen’s Fire Academy have the option to continue training, adding an eight-week program to become a member of the Fire Corps, a volunteer unit, which assists the Fire Department with non-suppression activities. Activities of the Fire Corps include on-site rehab at active fire scenes, assistance during weather-related emergency activations, assist the Department at major Sandy Springs community events, and participation in providing fire education programs for children, community groups, and more.
