SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs Fire Department is now accepting applications for its academy.

The Citizens Fire Academy is an immersive, 8-week program, designed to educate participants in the work of the Sandy Springs Fire Department and what it is like to be a firefighter.

The classes will be held Thursday evenings from Aug. 12 - Sept. 30.

Citizens Fire Academy participants receive training in several fire service activities and earn American Heart Association CPR/AED certification. The classes include a 12-hour shift where participants experience life at the fire station as well as a ride-along with Sandy Springs Fire Department units to whatever calls they respond to during that shift.

Citizens Fire Academy participants must live and/or work in Sandy Springs, be at least 18 years of age and pass a background check.
