Atlanta-Area Homeless, Education Non-Profits Receive More Than $10,000 From Delta Community

The benefiting organizations help homeless families get back on their feet, and help academically talented students prepare for high school.

Two organizations that support human services and education in Sandy Springs and other Atlanta neighborhoods have received a total of $10,500 from the Delta Community Philanthropic Fund.

In a ceremony at Delta's Sandy Springs Branch, the organization presented a check for $7,500 to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul for its Journey Program, which helps prevent low-income families and individuals from becoming homeless.

"The Journey Program covers the costs of housing so families can live together in a stable home while getting back on their feet. It also provides classes on financial planning and budgeting, credit management, nutrition, health and wellness and tenants’ rights," Delta representatives explained.

"Participating students and their families make a three-year commitment to classes that provide the educational enrichment, leadership training and social skills students need to succeed in high school, college and beyond," Delta said.

The Delta Community Credit Union Philanthropic Fund offers an annual grant-making program which provides financial support to registered nonprofit organizations with a purpose to help families manage their household finances and improve the physical and financial well-being of young people.

Delta Community representatives said that in 2016, the organization hopes to distribute a total of $80,000 to 17 Atlanta-area groups.
