Church of Scientology Donates Toys To Children's Healthcare

The Church of Scientology donated hundreds of toys to the Sandy Springs Police Department's annual campaign.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — The Sandy Springs Police Department once again held its annual toy drive this year to benefit Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. The Church of Scientology, participating for a second year, joined in the campaign, and placed its toy donation box in the reception area of its facility.

While the box was filling up, it appeared donations were not going to surpass last year's haul. That is until parishioner Fritz Alders took a vested interest. With less than a week to go before the deadline of Dec. 21, Alders immediately made numerous phone calls and texts to fellow parishioners, friends and family.

He asked Mark Webb, public relations officer for the church, for a bigger box, as he knew people would jump on board and come through for the kids. In keeping with the reason for the season, the congregation did just that.

The box was soon full and had to be emptied into bags not once, but three times. On Dec. 20, a day before SSPD's deadline, Alders and Webb drove more than six large construction bags and gave the toys to the Sandy Springs Police Department.

Snappy, the iconic Sandy Springs PD tortoise, first greeted Alders and the bags of toys until one of Sandy Springs' finest accepted the donation. Thanks to Alders, the Church of Scientology of Atlanta, other donors, the Sandy Springs Police Department and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta for making miracles occur for children in 2018.
