Deputy Fire Chief Leaving to Head Athens-Clarke County Fire Department
Jeff Scarbrough, Sandy Springs deputy fire chief and fire marshal, is leaving his position to become the fire chief in Athens-Clarke County.

Jeff Scarbrough, Sandy Springs deputy fire chief and fire marshal, is leaving his position to become the fire chief in Athens-Clarke County.
His last day is Sept. 25, said Sandy Springs spokesperson Sharon Kraun.
“He always wanted to be a fire chief,” Kraun said. “That was his goal. He is going to a much larger fire community.”

In a media statement, Fire Chief Jack McElfish said, “I am proud of Jeff. We strive in the department to help our people grow. Jeff is a tremendous asset. While I hate to see him go, I am very excited for him to take this new opportunity. It is a tremendous accomplishment and testament to his hard work and dedication. I know that Athens-Clarke County is fortunate to have Jeff as their new fire chief.
Scarbrough’s departure is the second announcement this week. Public safety director Terry Sult is leaving Sandy Springs to become the chief of police in Hampton, Va.
