Eugene C. Chambliss, Jr., 88, World War II Veteran, Active Boy Scouts Volunteer
The Sandy Springs resident also had a long career in marketing and sales and was a member of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church.

Eugene C. Chambliss, Jr., 88, of Sandy Springs, passed away Dec. 3, 2014, after an extended period of declining health.
Gene was born in 1926 in Columbus. He was the son of Eugene C. Chambliss, Sr., and Louise Kendrick Chambliss. He was a graduate of Columbus High School and Auburn University, where he was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity.

During World War II he was in the U.S. Army, serving with the 89th Chemical Mortar Battalion in the European Theater. As a reservist, he was called for a time during the Korean Conflict and helped to train troops. He worked in sales and marketing positions for Armour, Royal Crown Cola and Redfern Foods and subsequently had his own consulting business. He held several offices when he was a member of Sales and Marketing Executives of Atlanta.
Gene was an active volunteer for the Atlanta Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America, working primarily in the area of advancement. He was a member of Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church of Sandy Springs, where he served as an elder.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Wilcox Chambliss; his son E. Carwin Chambliss, III, of Sandy Springs; his son and daughter in law, Edward W. Chambliss (Laina Schwartz) of Los Angeles, California; and two granddaughters Olive and Piper Chambliss of Los Angeles.
He is also survived by his sister, Louise Chambliss Dykes of Bradenton, Florida, and his brother, Walter Kendrick Chambliss of Clarkesville, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Remembrance Fund at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, 471 Mount Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, Georgia 30328, or the Salvation Army.
A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014, at 2 p.m., at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church, led by Dr. Joe B. Martin, IV.
