Funeral Set For Wednesday For Former Sandy Springs Parks Director

Ronnie Young, who died June 2, served as the director of the Sandy Springs Recreation & Parks Department from 2008 to 2016.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- The funeral for the former Sandy Springs Recreation and Parks director who passed away late last week will be held on Wednesday in Carrollton.

Friends and family will say goodbye to Ronnie Young, 72, at 2 p.m. June 7 at Tabernacle Baptist Church. Dr. Stephen Allen and Dr. Ron Stone both will officiate the service. The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, June 6 at the church.

Young passed away suddenly on Friday, June 2. He served with the city of Sandy Springs between 2008 and 2016. Before coming to the city, he was employed for 35 years as director of Carrollton's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department and for five years with the city of Bremen in the same capacity.

Born in Carrollton, Young graduated in 1962 from Carrollton High School and the former West Georgia College. His obituary states he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Georgia Parks and Recreation Association and Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as the director of sports and recreation. His hobbies included golfing and bass fishing.

Young is survived by wife, Becky C. Young; children and their spouses, Ronald Reid (Meredith) Young, Jr. of Navarre, Florida; Kathryn Elizabeth (Ray) Carey of Raleigh, North Carolina; Zachery Brannan Young of Carrollton; Reid Crafton Young of Carrollton; Allie Elizabeth Fulcher of Winston; Amy Jean Smith of Villa Rica; Ashley Beck (Jason) McMichael of Weaver, Alabama; grandchildren, Hali, Kane, Mara, Olivia, Tayler, Bebe, Elijah, Blaze, Edward, Blakley, Kathryn, Audrey, Jace, Gigi, Maddie, Bryce; and aunt, Syble Reid.
