A jazz band that brings back swing music for your enjoyment..
New Horizons was created for retirees or seniors that played in the past and want to continue with their musical skills in the present.
Our Roswell New Horizons Band has three musical groups and each playing a different musical style. There is a Roswell New Horizons musical group to accommodate various venue sizes, from small gatherings to the largest of events.
Organizations that plan regular monthly or quarterly events can present each of these Roswell New Horizons musical sounds during the year so their audiences can enjoy new and unique styles of entertainment all year.
1. A Pops band that plays medleys of show tunes, swing jazz, well-known classical pieces and marches. Approximately 40 musicians play at performances. This is a big sound for large venues.

2. A Swing/Jazz band that re-creates the swinging sounds of big bands of yesterday (Basie, Ellington, Dorsey, Goodman, etc.) some are still performing today (like us) along with new contemporary bands. We are comprised of 16 musicians and a vocalist and have performed at many venues in the greater Atlanta area over the years.
3. The Dixie Kings play classical New Orleans Dixieland music from the original sound that developed way down yonder in Dixie; music as we know it today: playing Louis Armstrong’s style of jazz and his beginning days as a musician roaming the streets of New Orleans and playing with such Dixieland greats as Kid Ory, Jack Teagarden, Fats Waller – just to mention a few: Standards such as Angry, Lazy River, Do you know what it means to miss New Orleans, The Saints… and so many more.

To the extent practicable, the bands choose tunes from their extensive playlists that are suitable for each particular event, such as Valentine’s Day, Mardi Gras, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Christmas, etc.. The programs can run from 45 min to a couple hours, depending upon the band and the event.
We are a non-profit organization, which was organized 23 years ago. Our members receive no remuneration. In fact, each of our members pays monthly dues to cover the band’s regular expenses. However, performances generate additional out of pocket expenses, both for the preparation and the time at the venue (sheet music, music director, etc) for which the band requests a contribution, the amount of which can vary from situation to situation.
