Driver Accused of Fatally Hitting Person Walking On I-285

An Acworth man has been arrested for DUI after fatally hitting a pedestrian on I-285 early Sunday morning, Sandy Springs police said.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — An Acworth man was charged with vehicular homicide and DUI after a crash that killed a pedestrian, police said.

At 2:40 a.m. Sunday, Sandy Springs police responded to the area of I-285 East near Northside Drive regarding a pedestrian who had been hit by a vehicle. Officers found the deceased victim on the interstate and, about half-mile east from the primary scene, located a pickup truck with heavy damage.

After speaking with witnesses, police said, officers determined that the pickup truck and its driver were involved in the incident.

The driver, identified as James Daniel Worsham, 32, of Acworth was determined to have been driving under the influence and was taken into custody, police said.

Sandy Springs traffic investigators charged Worsham with failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence and vehicular homicide. Additional charges were pending, police said. Worsham was taken to the Fulton County Jail.

The identity of the victim was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
