SANDY SPRINGS, GA — A man has been charged and his brother has died after the two attempted to break into a Sandy Springs apartment.

On Dec. 14, 2020, Sandy Springs Police responded to an apartment off Roswell Road regarding a home invasion that had just occurred. Once officers arrived, they found a man who had been severely beaten. He took officers to his apartment where one of the suspects had accidentally shot himself while pistol-whipping the other man, police said.

Sandy Springs Police detectives learned the victim had been targeted after agreeing to meet with a person he met on a dating app. The two suspects arrived and forced their way inside by beating the apartment resident with a firearm, police said. As one of the suspects pistol-whipped the victim, that firearm accidentally discharged one round. That caused a self-inflicted gunshot wound to him, resulting in his immediate death.
