Memorial Service on Friday For Eva Galambos
Sandy Springs will also close general services at City Hall at 1 p.m. Friday to honor its founding mayor.

The city of Sandy Springs will host a memorial service later this week to honor the life and contributions of the its founding mayor.
The service to pay tribute to Eva Galambos will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24 at Sandy Springs United Methodist Church. The service is slated to run until 3:30 p.m. and will take place in the church’s sanctuary.

Galambos lost her battle with cancer on Sunday. She leaves behind husband, Dr. John Galambos, three children, Tobae, Michael and Johnny, and six grandchildren. Her funeral was held Tuesday afternoon, and the city opened the Council Chambers to allow residents to view the live streaming of the service.
She also leaves a lasting legacy, the creation of the city of Sandy Springs.

Her tenacity and perseverance led to the city’s incorporation in 2005, the state’s first new municipality in almost 50 years.
“The memorial is an opportunity to come together as a community to celebrate the accomplishments of Eva, as I know she would prefer the community she loved so much to celebrate a life well lived,” said Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul.
The City Council at its meeting on Tuesday unanimously approved a proclamation declaring June 21 as Eva Galambos Day in the city “for all eternity,” the mayor read as part of the proclamation.
Sandy Springs United Methodist Church is at 85 Mt Vernon Highway, Sandy Springs, GA 30328. City Hall will close general city services at 1 p.m. Friday, but Municipal Court will maintain its regular business hours.
