MJCCA has Sports, Theater, Jewish Earth Day Activities and More Coming Up

Wintertime youth sports registration is under way at the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta.  Swimming, dance, gymnastics and tennis activities planned this month. Baseball, girls soccer, boys basketball and triathlon events are scheduled for February.

Details: Open to every skill level, from toddlers to middle schoolers. Participants learn self-discipline and build strength and coordination, while developing grace and self-confidence as they enjoy the creative expression of movement.

• Family Musical: "Peter Pan and Wendy" 

When:  Jan. 9 – 19

How much: $12-22

Details: Recommended for ages 3 and over. Presented by Synchronicity Performance Group and based on the classic Peter Pan story. In this musical, Peter Pan’s not the only one who won’t grow up. Wendy’s having trouble coming to terms with moving out of her childhood room and putting on adult clothes. She wants to play. Wendy’s life gets sprinkled with a little pixie dust when the daring Peter Pan comes along to whisk her away to the magical island of Neverland where children never grow up.

• Lunch ‘N Learn Featuring Rabbi Fred Greene

When: Jan. 9, noon- 1 p.m.

Where: MJCCA at Zaban Park, 5342 Tilly Mill Road, Dunwoody

How much: Free and Open to the Community

Details: All are invited to join Rabbi Fred Greene from Temple Beth Tikvah (Reform) for a lively class and discussion at the MJCCA. The series features various Atlanta rabbis who are able to share unique perspectives on a topic of their choice. Bring a dairy lunch or purchase a kosher lunch from Goodfriend’s Grill.

• A Taste of Tu B'shvat

Details:  Tu B’Shvat, the Jewish Earth Day, celebrates the renewal of nature. Thanks is given for trees and eat fruit native to Israel in appreciation of the harvest.

• Tu B’shvat at the Tavern

When:  Jan. 16, 6:30 p.m.

Where: Park Tavern, 500 10th St, N.E., Atlanta. 

How much: Free and open to the community

Details:  Young Jewish adults, ages 21 and over, are invited to celebrate while learning about Tu B’shvat, the Jewish Earth Day. Tu B'Shvat is a festival of wonder, joy, and thankfulness that celebrates the renewal of nature. Explore the spiritual and environmental themes of this unique Jewish holiday and enjoy special fruit and nuts native to Israel in appreciation of the harvest.

• Men’s Night Out

Where: Gordon Biersch, 3242 Peachtree Road N.E., Atlanta

How much: Free and open to the community

Details: It's is an opportunity to socialize, network and just relax with other young adults. Held at some of Atlanta’s hippest hangouts, Jews on Tap attracts a diverse crowd from throughout the community. All are welcome, regardless of religious affiliation or background. Open to the entire community. No RSVP necessary. Drinks and food available for purchase.
