Mount Vernon Student Athletes Sign With Division I Schools

James McGuire will swim for the Miami University and Ethan Mangum will play golf at Drexel University.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA -- Two Mount Vernon Presbyterian School Mustangs have signed to play NCAA Division 1 Athletics.

James McGuire will swim for the Miami University RedHawks in Ohio and Ethan Mangum will play golf as a Drexel University Dragon in Philadelphia next fall.

As quarterback of Mount Vernon's varsity football team, Ethan Mangum helped take Mount Vernon into the GHSA playoffs for the first time.

The team ended the season with a 6-5 record. In addition to golf and football, Ethan is the Upper School Unity Prefect. The Mount Vernon Prefect System is comprised of outstanding juniors and/or seniors selected for their high character, exceptional integrity, leadership within and outside of the classroom, and commitment to the mission and core values of Mount Vernon.

They serve as a major leaders in the Upper School.

James McGuire has been a swimmer since age five beginning his career with the Sandy Springs Swim Association. As an Eagle Scout through his project James taught many children how to swim. In the summers he coaches swimming at Huntcliff in Sandy Springs.
