Rep. Silcox Named To House Deputy Whip Team

State Rep. Deborah Silcox was also named chair of the MARTOC committee, which oversees MARTA's budget.

SANDY SPRINGS, GA — State Rep. Deborah Silcox has been named to two influential positions in the Georgia House of Representatives. Silcox was appointed by House Majoriy Whip Trey Kelley to serve as a member of the House Majority Caucus Deputy Whip team.

This team of Republican lawmakers is responsible for monitoring bills as they move through the General Assembly and helping their colleagues understand the details of legislation and resolutions. Silcox has also been tapped to serve as chairman of the MARTOC committee, a joint House and Senate committee that oversees MARTA's budget.

“I am thrilled and honored to be selected for this position as the future of MARTA and transit is so vital to the future of metropolitan Atlanta, including Sandy Springs,” said Rep. Silcox.

The Committee on Assignments also appointed Rep. Silcox to serve as a member on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Education, Code Revision, Judiciary, Health & Human Services, Judiciary Non-Civil and State Planning & Community Affairs committees.

Rep. Kelley said he's "honored" to have Silcox serve on the whip team.

"Representative Silcox is a successful attorney, devoted mother and a dedicated member of her community," the Cedartown Republican said. "I am confident she will be an asset to our Whip team and our state."

Other members of the Deputy Whip team include Mark Newton of Augusta, Josh Bonner of Fayetteville, Michael Caldwell of Woodstock, David Clark of Buford, Matt Dubnik of Gainesville, Jeff Jones of Brunswick, John LaHood of Valdosta, Karen Mathiak of Griffin, Marc Morris of Cumming and Jason Ridley of Chatsworth.
