Riverwood Inducts 4 New Members Into Athletic Hall of Fame
The 2016 induction ceremony took place before the Homecoming football game at Hoskyn Stadium.
From Riverwood International Charter School: Riverwood Inernational Charter School inducted four new members to the Riverwood Athletic Hall of Fame. The 2016 Induction Ceremony took place before kick-off of the Homecoming football game on Friday, October 21st at Hoskyn Stadium.
The inductees include former student athletes Amaechi Morton, 2012 Olympian in Track and Field; Bret McDaniel, University of Georgia Track and Field All-American; Harry Mehre III, the first Riverwood athlete to play professional football; and Leonard Jones, the first principal of Riverwood.
Leonard Jones was Riverwood High School’s first principal when it opened in the fall of 1971. Mr. Jones spent 15 years as principal of Riverwood and was responsible for establishing its athletic programs. He later went on to serve as Athletic Director for the Fulton County School System until his eventual retirement. It was Mr. Jones’ leadership style, concern for his staff and students, and desire to continually improve Riverwood that made him loved by all.

Amaechi Morton was a 2012 Olympian in Track and Field representing Nigeria. While at Riverwood, Mr. Morton was a two-time State champion in 300m Hurdles and a member of the State champion 400 x 400m relay. He also holds the Riverwood school records in these events.
Bret McDaniel was Georgia AAA State Champion in Cross Country and 1600 Meters. While at Riverwood, Ms. McDaniel was also a state qualifier in swimming. She went on to run Cross Country and Track and Field at the University of Georgia where she held the school record for the 3000 Steeplechase.

Harry Mehre III was the first Riverwood athlete to play professional football. He signed as a free agent with the Washington Redskins in 1989. While at Riverwood, Mr. Mehre lettered in football, track and field, basketball and golf. He received a football scholarship and played for the College of William and Mary for four years as wide receiver.
