Juniors Saya Abney and Julia Dias represented the Raider Debate Team at the '17 National Debate Coaches Association National Champioships.

From Riverwood ICS:Riverwood International Charter School Juniors Saya Abney and Julia Dias represented the Raider Debate Team at the 2017 National Debate Coaches Association (NDCA) National Championships over spring break. Hosted by Weber State University in Ogden, Utah, April 8-11, the National Championships drew 84 teams from 17 states. Dias and Abney, co-captains of the Raider Varsity Debate team, competed in the Policy Debate division. Of the 150 Policy division debaters, Dias received the 8th Speaker Award and Abney received the 15th Speaker Award.

Both Abney and Dias were 3-3 in the preliminary rounds. Even though they missed advancing to the elimination rounds, their high individual speaker points reflect how well they presented their arguments. Of the teams from the state of Georgia, the Raiders finished third behind Westminster (the champions) and Marist.

Laura Guill and Marjorie Bernard-Evans are the Raider Debate faculty sponsors. Advising the team are coaches Gershom Chan and Tommy Jordan, members of the University of West Georgia Debate Team.
