Riverwood Siblings Win Awards In The Jiangsu Cup Chinese Speech Contest

The second annual Jiangsu Cup was open to high school students currently enrolled in a Chinese as a second language class.

ATLANTA, GA - Two Riverwood International Charter School students, who are also siblings, won second place ribbons at the 2016 Jiangsu Cup Chinese Speech Contest for High School Students in the Southern States. The competition was held November 5, 2016 at Emory University. Riverwood Junior Hal Olson won 2nd place in the Level 4 group. His sister, freshman Jill Olson, won 2nd place in the Level 2 group. As 2nd place winners, both students won a partially paid trip to China.

The second annual Jiangsu Cup was open to high school students currently enrolled in a Chinese as a second language class at a public, private, or charter school in Georgia, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, or South Carolina. A total of 24 students participated. The competition was comprised of two sections: a prepared speech in Chinese followed by questions from the judges, and a cultural question and answer session also conducted in Chinese.
